The Village Development initiative of Janaseva Foundation focuses on transforming rural communities into self-sustaining and progressive villages. It implements programs for sanitation, clean drinking water, healthcare, and tree plantation to improve health & productivity. The involvement of NSS & college students in this activity is noteworthy and also an important aspect as it exposes the students to rural life & it’s issues. This is very important as these students come from financially sound families and hitherto were totally unaware about the rural life.
Janaseva Foundation has adopted rural villages to be developed as Adarsh Gram. The population here subsists on meager income derived from small pieces of farm land. As the income is insufficient youngsters either migrate to Pune city or obtain work here. To help these villagers foundation has undertaken following activities :
In Block Velhe, Dist. Pune foundation has constructed more than 2700 toilets for families and few schools from 30 villages since 2007. The major donors for the construction of toilets are Rotary Club of Pune Riverside, Rotary Club of Pimpri Pune, Philanthropist Shri Anil Deshpande & Maharashtra Foundation (USA).
To eliminate health problems arising from contaminated and polluted water foundation has distributed 1500 water filters to the families from various villages Foundation has installed 11 RO Water Purification Plants in the villages from Blocks Bhor & Velhe and 1 in a school in Block Haveli
Foundation has distributed more than 6000 saplings of fruit bearing plants to 500 families from 10 peripheral remote villages in order to either augment their income or to provide fruits for the families specially the elderly.
Foundation had taken up Green Valley Project in cooperation with Suflam Nursery (Shri Raman Khinvansara) and Lions International. Under the project, nearly 1000 trees including medicinal plants have been planted on 2.5 acres of land at Ambi and Katraj. Every year employees and volunteers from various IT companies e.g Accenture, Sinsan Pharma etc. participate in tree plantation drives in various villages.
Elderly are imparted information on how to open bank accounts, agriculture and associated occupations. NSS students sent to the foundation to get the experience of social work visit these villages, stay there, listen to the grievances, arrange meetings with the concerned authorities, impart information on various issues etc. 700 students from MIT College had stayed in these villages for 2 days and imparted them information on various issues.
