Providing free Health Care Facilities

Since the establishment Health Care has been foundation’s major areas of service through various initiatives to improve the health of the underprivileged communities with particular emphasis on rural areas and tribal population.
The Health Care initiative of Janaseva Foundation provides essential medical services that include rural hospital, diagnostic / pathology services, free cataract surgeries, doorstep medical services, free health check-ups camps. To improve health of women & children foundation ran RCH project and to create awareness among masses particularly the elderly foundation arranges free lectures on various health related topics.

Late Com. Govindrao Dhapre Rural Hospital

Janaseva Foundation operates this fully equipped 100-bed rural hospital in Ambi Ranwadi, Pune, serving over 50,000 residents from more than 50 villages, including tribal areas. The hospital provides comprehensive medical services, including OPD, IPD, laboratory testing, X-rays, ECG, dental care, and minor surgeries.
A team of specialist doctors, including surgeons, physicians, gynecologists, dentists, ENT specialists, ophthalmologists, and pediatricians, visit on fixed days to provide expert care. Treatments are offered either free of charge or at a nominal cost.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Maharashtra’s Disaster Management Authority designated this hospital as a COVID Care Center, where it played a crucial role in providing essential treatment and conducting vaccination awareness campaigns. It is now listed under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, expanding its reach and impact.

Janaseva Foundation Eye Hospital – Initially started with Lions Club of Aundh Pashan

Operating from a dedicated wing of the rural hospital, this eye hospital organizes weekly free eye check-up camps across various villages, followed by free cataract surgeries using advanced technologies like Laser and Phaco.

Patients receive free transportation, post-surgery medications, and protective goggles. The hospital performs approximately 1,200 cataract surgeries annually, with a total of over 30,000 successful surgeries to date.

Recognized by the District Blindness Control Society, Government of Maharashtra, this initiative is supported by the Vision Foundation of India, which sponsors the surgeries.

Late Pravinchandra K. Shroff Long-Term Care Centre

This center, sponsored by Smt. Kanchan Shroff in memory of Late Pravinchandra K. Shroff, was inaugurated on March 8, 2018.
Located within the rural hospital, it is specially equipped to serve bedridden, paralytic elderly patients or those requiring long-term medical care. Over 500 elderly individuals have received sustained care at this facility.

Naturopathy Centre

The Smt. Icharajbai Chunnilal Khivansara Old Age Home, built with generous donations from the Khivansara family, was converted into a Naturopathy Centre in 2023. It was inaugurated on May 10, 2023, by Kumari Pratima Bhoumik, Minister of State, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, and became fully operational on April 1, 2024.
This center offers drug-free therapy through a holistic approach, including Yoga, Meditation, Acupuncture, Exercise Therapy, Manipulative Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Ozone Therapy, Mud Therapy, and Outdoor Exercises.

Mobile Medical Units

Janaseva Foundation provides free healthcare services to rural villages around Ambi and Ranwadi through ambulances donated by philanthropic NGOs.

In addition to road transport, the foundation has used motor launches to reach villages cut off by dam backwaters, ensuring tribal populations in remote areas receive medical attention. Patients undergo medical check-ups, treatment, and receive free medications through this initiative.

Health Camps

The foundation regularly organizes mega health camps in rural villages, covering:

  • Eye check-ups
  • Dental care
  • Bone density screenings
  • Antenatal and postnatal check-ups
  • Vaccination drives
  • General health check-ups

These camps are conducted in collaboration with doctors and specialists from Dr. D.Y. Patil Hospital and Government-run Primary Health Centers. Patients requiring further treatment are referred to Dr. D.Y. Patil hospital.

Health Lectures

Janaseva Foundation hosts free health awareness lectures for the general public, particularly the elderly, delivered by renowned medical specialists. Topics include:

  • Cardiac diseases
  • Diabetes management
  • Dementia care
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Psychological well-being
  • Gynaecological health
  • Active & healthy aging

The Extra Mural Centre of Savitribai Phule Pune University actively supports this initiative by providing expert speakers.

Physiotherapy Centers

The foundation provides physiotherapy facility at Old Age Homes / Rural Hospital in Ambi and Day Care Centre at Aundh Road

These centres are managed by trained physiotherapists, with regular visits from specialists at Navale Hospital & Sancheti Hospital, who also provide in-house treatment when necessary.

National Health Mission (NHM)

From 2011 to 2022, Janaseva Foundation implemented this Government of India & Government of Maharashtra initiative across 105 rural, hilly villages in Velhe Taluka, Pune.

This project involved:

  • A fully equipped ambulance & vehicle provided by the government
  • A dedicated team of a lady doctor, nurse, and social worker visiting three villages daily
  • Health check-ups, lab tests, free treatment & medicines

In remote tribal areas without road access, villagers carried their sick to the nearest road, where the foundation’s Mobile Medical Unit awaited them. In emergencies, the team transported patients to nearby Primary Health Centres & Tertiary Hospitals, even conducting emergency childbirth deliveries in the ambulance.

Reproductive and Child Health Program (RCH)

This program was initially launched in 1999–2001 with support from GTZ, Germany, and later extended for another three years with State Government assistance. It covered 40 rural villages, focusing on:

  • Adolescent girls, women, pregnant mothers, and infants
  • Free health check-up camps in each village
  • Prenatal check-ups & screenings
  • Distribution of iron & calcium supplements to anaemic women & girls
  • Encouraging safe deliveries in government hospitals
  • Promoting family planning, including contraceptive distribution
  • Mother-child mortality reduction initiatives
  • Polio & BCG vaccination drives
Thanks to these health awareness campaigns, hospital deliveries have become the norm in this region, significantly improving maternal and child health outcomes.
