Our Story

Explore our journey, mission, and impact.

Dr. Vinod Shah began visiting his birthplace to provide medical care to underprivileged patients at minimal charges, conducting health camps, performing endoscopic procedures, and offering essential healthcare services. His association with Jaycees International allowed him to undertake exemplary work, further reinforcing his commitment to social welfare. Recognizing the need for a dedicated organization to institutionalize these efforts, he established the Janaseva Foundation on 15th January 1988, securing its official registration with the Deputy Charity Commissioner’s Office on 23rd May 1988.

In its initial phase, the Foundation operated from a rented wing of Sonapur Hospital, delivering healthcare services to rural communities. A few beds were later reserved for the elderly, marking the inception of an Old Age Home. As the Foundation’s impact expanded, one of Dr. Shah’s patients, the late Shri Keshavrao Dhapre, generously donated five acres of land in Ambi in the early 1990s, facilitating the organization’s ability to extend its services to surrounding rural areas.

This pivotal contribution enabled the construction of the Foundation’s first Old Age Home, followed by the establishment of the Sanghvi Complex and a Rural Hospital. Over the years, the Foundation continued its expansion with infrastructure enhancements, mobile medical units, and other welfare initiatives.

In 2002, the Foundation set up the Destitute Rehabilitation Centre at Katraj on five acres of land provided at a highly concessional rate by Shri Maniksheth Duggad. This development laid the foundation for numerous subsequent initiatives. The same year, the Foundation also established a Nursing School at Ambi, further strengthening its commitment to healthcare and medical education.

Today, the Janaseva Foundation operates over 18 Projects, addressing diverse social and healthcare needs, making a lasting impact on marginalized communities.

To create an inclusive and compassionate society where every individual regardless of age, gender, or socio-economic status has access to quality healthcare, education, and rehabilitation, empowering them to lead a dignified and fulfilling life and discover their potential, free from inequality or neglect.
